Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Strategic Finance, Fundraising & US Commercial Economics

Company: ScubaTx

Stage: Seed / early Series A MedTech

Location: Manchester (hybrid; UK‑based presence required)

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Role Purpose

ScubaTx is preparing for a £3m fundraising round and US commercial launch in line with its April 2026 governing strategy blueprint. We are appointing a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) as a core member of the senior leadership team and the company’s single point of ownership for financial strategy, financial delivery, and economic truth.

In accordance with the company blueprint, this role exists to complete ScubaTx’s transition from a discovery‑led organisation to an operationally credible, investable company. The CFO combines strategic finance leadership with hands‑on accountability for cash stewardship, pricing logic, contracts, governance, and fundraising, supported by external providers where appropriate.

The CFO converts:

  • CEO‑led US‑centric, OPO‑first commercial strategy

  • CSO‑led scientific and clinical positioning

…into credible pricing models, reimbursement logic, cash‑conversion pathways, and long‑range financial plans that reinforce focus, guardrails, and disciplined execution.

This is a senior, delivery‑accountable CFO role, designed to reduce reliance on CEO heroics and ensure the company scales decisions and systems, not individuals.

Core Accountability

The CFO is Accountable and Responsible (A/R) for end‑to‑end financial leadership in service of the ScubaTx blueprint, including:

  • Long‑range (5–7 year) investor‑grade financial modelling aligned to the company’s staged commercial and product sequencing

  • Fundraising execution, financial narrative ownership, and diligence leadership

  • US commercial pricing strategy and reimbursement economics, consistent with proof‑before‑scale adoption

  • End‑to‑end cashflow management, liquidity planning, and runway protection

  • Contracts, capital structure, and intercompany financial governance (UK vs US)

  • Board‑level financial reporting, downside analysis, and decision support

  • Oversight of statutory accounts, tax, payroll, and financial compliance (delivered via internal or external resources)

The CFO owns financial outcomes, trade‑offs, and delivery, not only modelling or advice.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy, Modelling & Guardrails

  • Own and maintain a long‑range financial model that reflects the company’s deliberate sequencing (ATC Heart → Lung → gated PSF)

  • Model unit economics, pricing evolution, and reimbursement timing under conservative adoption scenarios

  • Embed strategic guardrails into financial plans (focus over expansion, proof over scale, discipline over optionality)

  • Provide scenario‑based insight, downside protection, and capital sensitivity analysis to the Board

Fundraising & Investor Credibility

  • Lead the financial workstream for the £3m raise, ensuring alignment with the governing blueprint

  • Own the financial narrative, data room, and diligence response

  • Act as the primary financial counterpart to investors, reinforcing credibility through consistency, clarity, and discipline

  • Partner with the CEO in investor discussions while maintaining ownership of financial detail and integrity

US Commercial & OPO Economics

  • Define and model US pricing, discounting, and payment terms for OPO customers

  • Model reimbursement pathways end‑to‑end, from procedure to cash receipt

  • Assess the economic impact of adoption pace, reference behaviour, and reorder dynamics

  • Ensure commercial economics support routine use before revenue optimisation, per strategy

Financial Operations, Cash & Governance

  • Own short‑ and medium‑term cashflow forecasting and liquidity management

  • Maintain visibility and governance over all incomings and outgoings

  • Oversee contracts and vendor payment approvals from a cash‑discipline perspective

  • Ensure invoicing, cash collection, and reconciliation are robust and predictable

  • Act as accountable owner for statutory accounts, tax, payroll, and financial compliance, delivered via external providers where appropriate

  • Establish fit‑for‑stage finance processes and controls appropriate for a Seed / Series A MedTech company

Capital Structure & Board Governance

  • Advise the Board on capital deployment, capital structure, and financing trade‑offs

  • Design and oversee intercompany flows and transfer pricing logic

  • Build a dependable board‑level finance reporting cadence that aligns financial and operational truth

  • Support audit, investor reporting, and governance evolution post‑raise

Executive Leadership

  • Act as a senior executive leader and trusted advisor to the CEO

  • Provide calm, credible financial leadership during periods of constraint or uncertainty

  • Serve as senior UK‑based executive presence during CEO US travel

  • Reinforce a disciplined, investable operating culture across the organisation

Oversight Interfaces

  • CEO: Capital strategy, investor relationships, commercial positioning

  • CSO: Scientific and clinical assumptions (consulted)

  • COO: Delivery timelines, manufacturing readiness, and operational inputs

The CFO owns financial truth, economic logic, and governance, ensuring a single, coherent view at Board level.

Experience & Profile

Essential

  • Senior finance leadership experience in MedTech, life sciences, or similarly regulated sectors

  • Proven ownership of institutional fundraising processes

  • Strong track record of investor‑grade modelling, cashflow management, and financial delivery

  • Deep understanding of US MedTech pricing, reimbursement, and payment mechanics

  • Hands‑on experience managing financial operations and external providers

  • Executive presence with credibility at Board and investor level

Desirable

  • Prior CFO, CBO, or VP Finance role in a scale‑up environment

  • Experience supporting UK‑to‑US commercial expansion

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualification or MBA

  • Experience building finance, pricing, and governance frameworks from first principles

Stage Expectations

This is a hands‑on CFO role during the Seed / Series A phase, expected to evolve as ScubaTx progresses from regulatory readiness into early commercial execution. Comfort operating close to detail while enforcing strategic discipline is essential.

Salary Expectation

Commensurate with experience, plus participation in the company’s equity incentive scheme.
